Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA): “Africa Is Rising”

This evening, Thursday, August 30th, Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles (AFWLA) will host “Africa Is Rising”, a networking social highlighting Africa’s fashion and textile industries, at The Standard Hotel (550 S Flower Street) from 6-10pm. Tina Tangalakis of Della LA is our special guest, and proceeds from all ticket sales will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation.

Unfortunately, I already have plans for this evening but if I didn’t I would be there! Hope you all get to enjoy the event!

Africa Fashion Week Los Angeles is pleased to have sponsorships by Arik AirOPIFace 2 Face AfricaDella LAClear EssenceSassy Hair Extensions W.E.T PRMiss Dunnie O and ETHNO Nightlife. Arik Air is a well-regarded African airline that has teamed with other Africa fashion weeks around the globe. Additionally, Face 2 Face Africa is at the forefront of African media in the United States. In partnering with organizations like the MacDella Cooper Foundation, which provides educational, economic and social relief to Liberian orphans and children, AFWLA aims to incite a shift in the perception of African designers, African cultures and Africa as a whole. The continent is so much more than meets the eye. And much like New York Times op-ed columnist Nicholas D. Kristoff recently stated, in his article titled as such: Africa is [still] on the rise.
AFWLA is encouraging a minimum of $5 donations as 100% of all proceeds will go towards the MacDella Cooper Foundation. All payments should be made via Eventbrite. The first 50 registrants will receive a gift bag featuring items from the generous sponsors.

Happy Anniversary & Happy Friday!!

Today is not only the start of the weekend but my 3 year anniversary. I’m very humbled to be in a relationship with my love. I wrote a poem about him.

You’re the first thing I see in the morning when I wake up

You shower me with love everyday

You never take a day off from our love and over-time is never a problem

When we travel together we share the most weird yet incredible memories

When I’m feeling down you literally lift me up

No one captivates my mind like you

When I’m apart from you I feel a piece of me is missing

Never was aware love could be so fruitful, challenging and AWESOME!

I love you, I like you and I can’t wait to see you.

Happy Anniversary babe ❤

Spice Girls X 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony = Flashback

I grew up watching Spice World on VHS, wearing platform sneakers and trying to figure out which one of my friends and I were who in the group Spice Girls. Back in the day everyone wanted to be baby spice so I was always nominated to be scary and sporty spice (which was fine by me, my hair was definitely curly and huge and I adored sports). I look back at how much entertainment and fun this all female group brought to my childhood and I smile. Thank you Spice Girls!!!

Any who, I love the Spice Girls Women and here’s another look at their performance and their style from last night.

Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown of The Spice Girls perform during the Closing Ceremony on Day 16 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at Olympic Stadium on August 12, 2012 in London, England.
